EndeavourOS: A Very User-Friendly Arch-Based Linux Distribution

This distro picks up where Antergos Linux left off in terms of seeking an easy-to-use online installer and modern user-friendlier Arch environment. Antergos, once a popular distro among Arch enthusiasts, shut down when its developer team members declared they no longer had time for it.

Bryan Poerwoatmodjo (Bryanpwo), project leader and founder of EndeavourOS, was the Antergos community forum moderator. One of his goals for the young distro was to make the terminal an integral part of the operating system while also providing a GUI for software installation as a small layer of convenience. He does both very well.

EndeavourOS is not an Antergos clone, but it is a very close replacement for other Arch-based options. One of this distro’s founding principles is to offer something not often available within Arch Linux communities. It promises to provide a nontoxic community environment where users actually can get friendly technical help.

Another essential feature is how closely it adheres to the Arch Linux goal of simplicity. With most other Linux families, users have several methods to get various computing processes done.

This distribution is ideal for the new Arch Linux users. You do not need to go thru the hassles of installing vanilla Arch by following manuals. EndeavourOS makes it super easy with its Calamares GUI installer. You can easily choose the language, do partition, select boot device, and other basic configurations needed for a Linux installation.

EndeavourOS comes with the Xfce desktop environment as default (offline package) ISO image. The Xfce desktop environment is super fast and lightweight, ideal for lower-end hardware with a minimum of 2 GB of RAM.

The online package (which requires an internet connection during installation) provides you options best of desktop environments. You can choose from eight desktop environments – Mate, LXQt, i3-wm, Cinnamon, KDE Plasma, GNOME, Budgie, and Deepin. Everything is available for you.

The installation is easy for EndevourOS. A beginner user can easily do it using the universal installer framework tool – Calamares. It gives you specific and easy to understand options to install. It provides the options to create partitions, delete and modify them as well while installing.
